ID please
Bought this bamboo as a small 9cm potted bamboo in 2016 now it’s grown up a bit and shooting what’s people’s thoughts, my thinking is Phyllostachys Atrovaginata looking at them dark claret shoots

Thanks the only reason I said ph Atrovaginata was I have it shooting and thought it looked very similar, Second pic is my Atrovaginata and first pic the mystery bamboo, any help to id this bamboo would be much appreciatedependable wrote:Looks like P flexiosa to me.

Well it is possible I have my ID wrong, but the new shoots look like what I have always thought was flexiosa. One of my only clues is that it was from a stand that came back after flowering about 15 years ago, which I was told was probably flexiosa.

Those don't really look like my Atro shoots either, although mine might be a bit more mature than yours.

Thanks guys for your help, Alan mine is a young plant but looked at some photos of Atrovaginata shoot on the net and come up with this

Only a guess but it would not surprise me if they lighten in color.

Here is the first one up. Sometimes they are more solid purple, with margins less visable, like in the OP's original picture. If this is not flexiosa, I'd be interested to know what it is. Thanks.
