Boo-Shoots for 2015

Re: Boo-Shoots for 2015
All my phyllostachys are shooting: Nigra, spectabilis, Aureosulcata, Purpurata and Vivax.
Nothing from my only other runner, Semiarundinaria fastuosa. When does that type typically shoot?

Moso is doing better than I thought it would. I planted this from a one gallon division in April or May of last year. The nursery who sold it to me hacked the root ball in half prior to shipping, which would actually make it a 1/2 gallon division.
The first two pics are from last year after shooting and leafing out. As you can see it struggled in the heat with a poorly established root system. You can see the annual rye grass dye off in the heat of summer. The one tall culm snapped this winter. The third picture I took this past Monday. I counted 15 shoots.
I know my pictures stink. I have 50 or so boos I'm taking pictures of every year.

Spring haas sprung in south Alabama, fruit trees are blooming and

the Moso is popping up. Good upsize, must be 2.5" so I'm expecting 2" culms.

Here are the moso pics from last year. Apparently, I only uploaded the last pic in my previous post.
Also shooting: Sasa tsuboiana, Ps. japonica, both aureosulcatas, P. flexuosa, and P. glauca. However, flexuosa and glauca were in 28 gallon pots until a few days ago.

My Shanghai 3 started one little shoot. Nice.
There is one shoot also left over from last year that is a lot fatter and about 2 inches tall. But it hasn't started moving yet. Or maybe to little to see, maybe it's fatter so needs more nutrients yet for it to get going. The one left over from my prominens from last year put on 6 inches now this spring.

Completely top killed Chimonocalamus pallens seedling (1 year old) had managed to put out shoot, other bamboos are still waiting.
F. murielae is in standby mode, shoots are developing, but have not yet been triggered to start actively growing. Expecting upsize.
Moso seedling that was almost completely top killed is showing no signs of shooting above ground, but I've removed several rhizomes with fat buds that are likely two to three weeks away from shooting. Two years old rhizomes are fully developed, younger rhizomes had dormant buds only.
Pseudosasa japonica is also waking up and shoots that emerged late in the autumn last year started to show life.
Soil temperature around 5C (7C deeper down at 10cm below soil level)

My Vivax is furiously shooting after only about 9 months in the ground after 4 years in a pot. But it's shooting in a rather clumping fashion even though I've found rhizomes over 4 feet in all directions.

Vivax is quickly becoming one of my favorites! Every day it's noticably taller and it shoots a lot of upsized culms. Also the sheaths fall off quickly revealing the lusterous canes beneath. So far there's at least six canes larger than the original.

Fargesia dracocephala 'Rufa'
The rain we've had triggered it to start growing.

Re: Boo-Shoots for 2015
My moso started shooting on March 15th. Five 1 inch plus sized culms and a few smaller culms have come up. As always the rabbits and squirrels are getting their share.
Re: Boo-Shoots for 2015
One shoot of decora coming up.
Two more shoots of Shanghai 3. Man they are really fat for such a tiny plant.
