Suspected that there might be a moso shoot under a piece of sandstone, sure enough and it looks pissed about it...

Bashania fargesii sizing up this year, closer to an inch than .75 on a couple of them...

It looks like your moso is a solid 2 inches this year. If they are shooting this late for you, then I'm guessing that they can probably get pretty tall, perhaps over 20ft or so.

I hope I can see shoots soon on the moso division I got from you. The seedling mosos are already shooting here so I'm predicting that it will only take another 1-2 weeks for it to shoot as well as my moso bicolor. The temperatures are trending upwards here so I'm expecting to see moso shoots before the middle of the month.

Spectabilis lamatemple is upsizing a LOT this year. And not only that - if none of the shoots abort, there will be a forest of culms. There were only 3 culms last year. Still no signs of shiroshima shooting, there's only one whip that started where it stopped last season. I expect a lot from that one. :)

For the first time since I got it in Jan 2011 my Phyllostachys atrovaginata has three tiny shoots also small shoots from semiarundinaria yashadake kimmei and aurea 'Koi'. Pics soon it is raining today. I will also post a pic of my yellow groove I am sure it is larger than 1 inch.

Most of my bamboo have been top killed or leaf-killed over the Winter.
I see some tiny leaf buds on some of them.

Any chance that will shoot before new leaves are developed on existing branches?

Poke - I think my Rufa leafs back out roughly the same time it shoots (early may here), and the P alata started to replace leaves in may, and stopped just before or after shooting (early June here)

I am not sure what us usual but all my boos except YG and Alata had very good leaf buds growing just before shooting. The YG and ALATA so far barley have any leaf buds and the ones I see are tiny.

New to bamboo. Trying to learn. Got 3 plants. The one shooting is a p. vivax aureocaulis. Just received the plant 30 days ago and it is doing very well in the ga heat and humidity. Hope my 110 gallon planter will work for a few years. The other plant is a P. nigra diak and small variegated bamboo plant. I want to put them in the ground but afraid I might wake up one morning and they will be all over the neighborhood! Such fear from what I have read. I have a large backyard but feel forewarned about a takeover.

Shoots in the south of Nova Scotia

Fargesia robusta Campbell, a few leaves missing off the topmost part but is re-leafing so they must have blown off the the early gale.

F. apicirubens Dabashan #2

F. murieliae after winter

My bamboos are really tiny compared to some of the pringles-can shoots I'm seeing on here, but I'm still excited to see them grow!

The picture is my Rufa. These shoots are getting almost as tall as the largest existing culms, but they're a whole lot wider (which is hard to tell from the pic). There are lots of smaller ones too.. so I think the plant will be quite a bit bigger this summer, than last year.

My other two bamboos (the Murielae and Nitida) have both been in the ground a year, so who knows what they'll do. I do see one or two shoots just starting to poke out of the ground around the one, and both are putting up a lot of leaves, though.

Pseudosasa japonica 'Tsutsumiana' (Green Onion) started shooting yesterday 4/30/2013. I am surprised on how well it did through the winter uncovered. And I think it is neat that the rhizomes that are exposed have the green onion humps like the culms.

Like clockwork a Chusquea Gigantea shoot popped up today. It really likes the first week of may to start shooting here, warm/normal/cold springs dont seems to change it.

It looks like my top killed kwangsiensis will live another year, but it is severely weakened especially without rhizomes yet.
Image

The potted Nuda is starting to shoot, but with nothing too impressive.
Image

Anderson moso is making a decent shoot which should turn out to be nearly the size of the original culm in the division, maybe with compressed internodes, but a lot more foliage.
Image

Spectabilis looks like it will be about the same size as last year, but these are coming off new rhizomes as opposed to the ones from last year which shot from the existing shoot buds on the division.
