I was wondering where everyone gets their seeds/plants from, and if anyone has a favorite catalog. I do not know which one I should order from this year...

I get lots of different seed catalogs from many good companies. I've never had a problem with any seed company, so I don't hesitate to order from any of them. From memory, I've ordered seeds from Park Seed, Pinetree Garden Seeds, Burpee, Seeds of Change, Swallowtail Gardens, Wildseed Farms... I think that's it. I buy some more "common" seeds locally too.

I too have ordered from (and really like) Swallowtail seeds. I also like (because I tend to mostly be interested in edible greens, when growing seed) http://www.kitazawaseed.com/ and https://www.nicholsgardennursery.com/store/ (who this year dropped their print catalog, and are exclusively online).

If you are into different Tomatoes try 'Totaly Tomatoes'.

I got my kudzu seeds from chiltern seeds, and they were mostly viable however I failed at growing them successfully, but this seller has a huge variety of seeds.

If I buy from one of these seed catalogs, I will alway first check to see if it is available on eBay because there are often auctions available that are rarely bidded on and you can get pretty good deals.

The trick is to keep them on the watchlist, and never start bidding until there is less than a minute left in order to get the best deals on eBay auctions as these items seem less attractive when no one has a bid on them. Unfortunately I'm not the only one that does it since I often get 1 week listings of bamboo plants as a seller that don't get a bid until the last few minutes, then there are suddenly over 10 bids at the end. These seed sellers much be selling in a huge volume to make any profit subtract the shipping expense and eBay + paypal fees.

I have learned from previous horrible experience that if you find yourself saying things like "How bad could it possibly be?" or "What could possibly go wrong?", it will end badly!

Okay, Googled information about them, they ship bare root plants. Dave's Garden has about 3:1 negative reviews. Really bad, but not TyTy bad.

What I hate, is that I could spend more at another company for the same plants, or pay less for plants that might not live (according to reviews). I was planning on ordering fruiting shrubs, but they are so cheap it seems suspicious.

It would certainly pay to shop around and to pay attention to the reviews on the Dave's Garden website. Also be suspicious if there are no reviews there. TyTY threatened legal action to get the reviews of them removed. A shame really since it was very entertaining reading in a Stephen King sort of way.

Usually I go with "Johnny's selected seeds" out of Maine. If they can grow it there, I can probably grow it here. If a good seed company has it's seed farms in your region, fair chance they will be better suited for you garden than material from a different climate type.
