Torture

Post by Eastlandia »

I?ve had several conversations before of bamboo torture methods?African Tribes that tied down a person and had shoots come through them, Vietnam War horror stories. Any info out there or is it all fake?
I can?t remember if I have mentioned this before, but I still find it intriguing... After all, it is Halloween?. -eastlandia

Or is it but the envy inside that tortures?

How exactly are African warriors dressed while being impaled by a bamboo shoot? Anything short of a full warrior's attire would be in violation of the Geneva convention and a social outrage.

In their pajamas.

People torture others with any device possible. Including their mouths.
So if one has a sharp cane to prod and poke. It'll do.

Not new shoots, but mature culms cut diagonally into short spikes and placed in the ground with feces in the pit, make an excellent booby trap. Step into the leaf covered trap and the culm spikes go through your boot and do a lot of damage to your foot and the feces will aid in having an infection set in. That's why they say "War is Hell" and always be tough on the enemy, but send someone else's son to do the job.

From Wikipedia:
The tip of the punji stick was frequently smeared with feces, urine, poison, or other contaminants to promote infection in the wound created by the sharpened stick penetrating the soldier's skin.
Oh. That's sweet.

I wonder if there is anyway to incorporate bamboo in my homebrew? I'm guessing no. Boo shoot ale doesn't sound too appealing. But then again people make pumpkin ale, and all other sorts of nastiness... I also have never seen a mushroom brew, but since I really am not a fan of 'shrooms I'm not going to dabble into that realm.

Hmmm... do I have any plants that make edible shoots? I guess I could take one and drop it in the fermentation bucket to see what happens.

I hear bicyclers shave their legs, but I don't. Is that a form of torture?

I wouldn't know... I don't shave my legs. I think cyclist that do shave use it as an excuse to express their *alternative* lifestyle

Bamboo As Fuel- by the Washington Post

May 30, 2003

When one asks Robin Jokoski about his bamboo grove, his eyes light up. This man starts naming all the things he has already built with it; including toilet seats, mexican shades, firewall protection, and the like. But what excites him the most, is the future of bamboo.

"You see this bamboo field out here. Nothing but oil." Robin said, "Bamboo is the future fuel of America!"
I can't get the rest of the article. Only for paid login. They make it so tempting with the first few words. Like seeing whip topping and assuming there is pumpkin pie in the oven.
