Is it a bambusoides?

Hello, I have this bamboo I bought as a Ph. bambusoides, it's not so big but I'm not sure it is really a Bambusoides, it looks like a small Ph. vivax.
So if you check this pictures and let me know your opinion I'd be glad.

I don't think so but actually I'm not so sure of what you mean

I think you can not tell from just the photos of the plants, Vivax and Bambusoides can look very similar and even the shoots are similar but it would be easier to see from shoot photos but more mature shoots and that will take a bit of time.

Is culm texture rough on touch, like sandpaper or is it smooth, almost glossy?
Are the internodes at the bottom of the culm, near the soil level congested, somewhat deformed and short?

Should read any striping not ant striping. Specifically any green stripes.? Rgds

I've seen Phyllostachys aurea sold as everything you can imagine, that's why I asked about congested internodes

I think you should wait and check the shoots. Culm wall thickness would also be a good option to determine the difference between vivax and bambusoides, but it's way too early with juvenile culms.

There are no stripes of any kinds, there are no congested or deformed nodes too. The culm texture is rather smooth not rough at all.

I found a picture of a shoot, not the best quality but at least we don't have to wait until next April.


I want to add that when I bought this specimen I could see an adult culm, it was huge that's why I'm quite sure it couldn't be Ph. aurea or other medium phyllostachys, even if I can't really swear that culm was from the same plant.

One possibility based upon the bright yellow and apparent smooth culm is castlllon. Rgds

Perhaps, it could be but there are no evidence of any green stripes in the sulcus or, moreover, anywhere else.
It should be similar to a Ph. aureosulcata spectabilis but mine shows his stripes even if it's quite small.
