Different size shoots?
Planted 19 diff clumps of yellow grove 2 months ago, some are shooting big 1" diameter shoots and others are skinny little drinking straw types, what is the diff?

RE: Different size shoots?
Almost an inch....lol....Seriously....I'm guessing it is due to the amount of rhizome ball that you got with buds. for example. I had dug two divisions of yg a couple of years back. one was about 18 inches around with a nice culm. the other 18 inches too, actually had smaller culms but broke in two. I planted the two halves anyway. One half had no culms, just a root ball. as of now both of the smaller two halves are putting up 3/4 inch culms about 12 ft. the other division, the one i thought was a great one, well the huge culm is dead and there are only a few whip shoots growing from that division. I am guessing i didn't get too many viable roots with that division. Just an opiniion but that has been my experience.

I am going to have to agree with Kurt due to similar results on numerous occasions.
