Very nice jungle developing there. It all looks so well kept too. You must be working out there all day and night. :) I've got some grasses growing in my garden but they're not the ornamental varieties.

What a tranquil looking place to live :!:  How many acres do you have, and how many years have you been at it? I hope to achieve some of that beauty on our acreage. :D Thank you for posting inspiration  !

Well, I knew it had a tropical look to it.

Brad,

It looks like you have a great place out there. Are you still up for some vivax by mid-September?

Serenity, we have lived here for about 5.5 years and all of the landscaping is 5 years or less. We have a long, narrow 5 acre strip. Most of the raised beds are 4 years old and were built to cover up extremely ugly drainage ditches, concrete dumps, and eroded to stone areas.

Jake, mid-September will not find me here, only the first and the last weekend of the month but I am still happy to overwinter your Vivax if you can get it here when I'm around.

Roy, do you have the Gchloa? It is 1 of 3 tropicals that I'm willing to continue dragging indoors each fall, the others being BVV and Burmanica. All 3 have consumed most of the soil in their pots and I am trying to get some 65 gallon containers to up them into, when I have them out of the pots I could surely pop off a Burmanica for you - perhaps you are too cold for it? It is very nice in a container I don't really know how it would form up in-ground..

Brad,

The only GIGANTOCHLOA I have is "atroviolacea". I try not to devote a lot of space to the real cold sensitive ones. They can be grown in the SunCoast region, but they will take a hit every so often. People growing the more cold sensitive bamboos have to realize that every so often the bamboos will be hit with a hard freeze (24 F for about 4 hours or better) and that they will have a lot of cutting and hauling of dead culms. Of course the bamboo will grow back rapidly; a positive thing about bamboo. I haven't had freezing temps in my backyard since 1996, but I have a good number of lakes just north of me, which provide somewhat of a micro-climate.

We also have a long, narrow 5 acre strip. Our lot is 185 ft wide x 1200 ft long. I have planted the outer perimeter, and now I am working on the inner perimeter that I am planning to have paths, benches, maybe a few bird & pond areas. I just have to remember to leave room for the house  :!:
