Thamnocalamus tessellatus new form introductions needed.

Post by Gunnar_GG »

Would someone please go to south africa and find the other forms of Bergbamboes?; Thamno. tessellatus? Discover the ?Pygmea?? The ?Erecta?? The ?Humungus?? It's only been collected once!? Are there any blooming records on this? Can you forgive me for sounding whiney?
It does so well here in Puget Sound. Full blistering (snicker) sun: Yes! Full shade: fine. 8°F one night: no effect. And except for the raggedy sheaths, nice conformation. But please, only one form?

Now it's four years later; was I TOO whiney?
We could be so close, what with all the traffic to S.A. and back.

Now that the US bamboo importation program is working again do any other countries have any imported Bergbambos that we can import without having to go to Africa?

Mine is do well here and does not mind full sun in 90*F dry temps. Because of all of the new shoots in the past month, I just covered mine with a tarp for the winter. The forecast is for 1 to 3 inches of snow on Monday then lower temps.

I live in South Africa.
I even tracked down Bergbamboes in the wild.
It didn't last long outside its wet, cool montane area in the dry, warm savannah where I live.

I could try again, especially if someone wants to trade?
