N2_____,

That's interesting, I've never seen an 'Akebono' aureosulcata. How old is the plant? Was this a sport from an established grove?

Have you been able to isolate the rhizome it is on?

Awesome! Can you comment on growth rate in comparison to other forms?

I would be more than happy to donate a portion of my landscape for your trials. :D

Also, wanted to mention that you don't have catagorize the variegation as "akebono like". Just plain akebono will do. Or akebono style. I assume you were drawing comparison to P. japonica "Akebono", but "akebono" can refer to any plant displaying that type of variegation. There are akebono rhodeas, an Epimedium 'Akebono', and even an Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Akebono'. Likely many others. Makes a ready made cultivar name if you like tradition. Of course, you could name it whatever you wanted. Fargesia dracocephala 'White Dragon' is another bamboo with akebono variegation, for instance.

Yikes, I just saw the 105 types of bamboo statement. That's alot of land you must have down there. Still a fascinating photo everytime I look at it.
