Most FAQs by those new to bamboo

Post by philinshelton »

I am gearing up to start a bamboo blog, and I am including a page that deals with those FAQs we hear from bamboo initiates. I know the ones I hear as a bamboo grower/retailer, but I would like to know which questions you see the most on this forum so I can be sure to address at least the top ten most FAQs. I have been out of touch with the forum for a long time, so I would appreciate your input. Thanks!

Hi, Phil-

Here are a couple to start off with:

1. How do I make a division?
2. Can I grow bamboo from seeds or cuttings?
3. Which bamboo can I grow indoors?
4. How can I control/remove bamboo?
5. Why is bamboo so expensive?
6. Where is the best place to buy bamboo? How about eBay?
7. What diseases do bamboo get, and how do I treat them?
8. What are the hardiest bamboos for my area? Which ones are the fastest to get big?
9. How much water do bamboo need, and when and how should I fertilize them?
10. How do I protect new shoots from squirrel damage?

If not answered in #1, #4 or #12:

13. How deep do the roots go?

Phil,
Are you starting a new domain? Looks like halfside is ka-put. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the replies....already see a couple on there that are not in my most asked questions list.

Also, in addition to lucky bamboo and heavenly bamboo, what are the plants most often confused with bamboo?

Rick, halfside is ka-put as a retail nursery since I bought a partnership into a landscape company with my inventory (July 2007). I still have the domain name, and have plans to promote some education, workshops, consulting with a website. Will keep you posted when something happens. Thanks!

I have a list!

Southern Indiana.
My Bamboo List.

The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.

a good description of Rhizome pruning would be a great thing to have. I most commonly have people tell me " I would love to grow bamboo, but I dont want it to take over my yard"

The "take over my yard" statement is always brought up when speaking about bamboo. Where did that come from?

Nice... more questions to come for sure...

Like... to clip or not to clip rhizome escapees
the myth that a pencil sized culm will morph into a 4 inch diameter monster in 30 days of growing. :)
