Desert Rose & ??? blooming

Post by serenityinbamboo »

My first Desert Rose blossom is here...

I am not sure as to what this is, but I absolutely love it...

It blooms every year, and as you can tell by the picture, it changes color.
If anyone knows what it is, please let me know.

Hey Rob! It really is neat. It starts out as a pod and transforms into the flower through various stages and colors. I do not know if I would classify it a vine but, it definitely goes everywhere, holds on with it's leaf tips and gets to be maybe 3-4 feet long.

If you want some pods/seeds send me a message with your address and when they become viable I will send them.

Me too!? :)

I don't know what the heck it is, but that second one is gorgeous! If you have seeds, or whatever, I'd like to lay claim to a few.

...kinda looks like fire....pretty...

Lemme know,

The flower looks similar to Cleome.

I believe it is called a fire lily. A friend sent me some pics of a plant he photographed a few months back.

Sounds like that's it. The foliage keyed me in on the lily part but I have never seen that flower. Quite stunning.

Yeah Impaler, you too :)

Well I "Googled" cleome and fire lilly and neither one looked like mine.
Similar, but no.

Any other suggestions :?: I have had this plant come back every year for the last 10 years and I do not know what it is called or how I ever acquired it. When we bought our house I had redone the flower beds and put in new ground, soil, plants... unless it was dormant in one of those :?

Try Adenium = http://www.cactus-mall.com/andre/

Try Flame Lily (Gloriosa rothschildiana) = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame_lily

Great websites Joseph and thank you! I can't wait for my rose to get as large as some of those photos! Nice to finally have a name to my "Flame Lily", just surprised to hear all parts are poisonous :!: All these years

Well Rob and Dan, do you still want me to send seeds :?:
