Iridescens 'Striata'

Iridescens 'Striata' is sizing up well. Many 3.25" culms this year. Also dug about 20 lbs of shoots last evening.

Re: Phy bambusoides Albovariegata

Hi Brad,

I grew albovariegata for 3 seasons before in succumbed to the cold. It never seemed to have many leaves, but I thought that was just from losing them to the cold. Yes, it acted a lot like Harbin.

Morning Alan.

Brad gave me a virella in 2012. Here's a link to a pic I took last year. http://www.bambooweb.info/bb/viewtopic. ... 6&start=15

Observations of Parvifolia over 13 years

I've grown Ph. parvifolia in Middle Tennessee for approximately 13 years, and these are the observations I've made regarding its growth. Ph. parvifolia is an exceptionally hardy large bamboo. It is at least as hardy as vivax, and may be a 1/2 a growing zone more hardy than vivax. Parvifolia is a hea...

The round holes in the wall of the madake are vascular bundles, for transporting nutrients. Or are you talking about the black dots, if so I don't know what they are.

Re: Bamboo tools?

Yes, they all get considerable use. This area is booming with lots of new homes that need some privacy, so the market for screening bamboo is wide open. I don't dig much anymore. I just hire the work out now.

Re: Bamboo tools?

Hello Kudzu. Thought about you the other day when I was examining the vivax black spot you gave me. I have used the Bamboo Spade from MidAtlantic for many years. I traded with the Silverman's for the first one. It has dug/ cut 100's of root balls. It broke last year at the impact area, but I was abl...

David Farrelly notes that they are used for construction, and scaffolding in Taiwan. I'll cut some of the older canes to cure and see how they do.

Yes, I've got makinoi. Its been slow to size up and spread. The biggest culm is about 2" X 20'. Shows some burn during our normal winters but the culms survive. Have you had any experience with it?

Re: Parvifolia as a Companion Crop for less Hardy Timber Bam

Hey Brad We are all doing well and hope you are too. The lithophila wood is seasoned and ready to work, seems really strong. It's just a matter of making time to do it. I'm going to cut a few more canes this fall. Funny story- we had a lightening storm a few weeks ago. I had a 20' lithophila pole le...

Parvifolia as a Companion Crop for less Hardy Timber Bamboo

Good morning All, I have inter-planted parvifolia as a companion crop for bambusoides which is not hardy here in Middle Tennessee. My hope is that the added mass of parvifolia will protect the bambusoides enough that it can reach maturity. My goal is to harvest timber from the bambusoides. It is dif...
