indoor boo

Kurt - I brought an Arrow to friend for his office. He put it in front of a west facing window but left the blind down all the time. It started looking like crap in a few weeks. This reminded him to open the blind the and plant started looking better pretty quick. It surely seemed like there was a n...

z6 clumpers

Meat, tough row to hoe in your area and mine....sorry, no black ones, my money is on Fargesia Rufa. It seems to take the heat much better than others of the genus. My guess is that the Chusquea will not be happy there and although there are other Fargesias to consider, my early trials and the advice...

seattle bamboo

I'm not sure if you are the same person who posted this question in the GWeb forum, but here is an answer from there: Ph. aurea; S. fastuosa, Ph. nigra; Ph. dulcis; Ph. humilis; Ph. vivax 'Aureocaulis'. These have all done well for me in the Seattle area. Amount of available sunshine will be a big f...

welcome

Richard, nice to 'meet' you and welcome to the forum. I don't know how many tropical clumper growers we have on here yet as the forum is in its infancy. I suspect that more will start to speak up but you may not see a lot of replies to your posts such as the black clumper of choice one you posted, u...

montane

Fred - I suspect that it may be due to their easier importation laws, combined with the fact that most of the UK is quite suitable for montane clumpers, while heat loving genus tend to struggle in many areas. Jan Oprins, Mike Bell, Jos and several other folks in Europe have made many import trips to...

A Scandens

Fred, I see, it looks like it can take a bit of frost. I'll see if Jos wants one. Thuja, yes this is an expensive, complicated thing. I have to clean the plants at the nursery in the NE, have them inspected there and obtain a Phyto San Cert for each box, bring them back with me on the plane and turn...

A Scandens

Fred, I suspect that it is too cold for the Scandens in Valkenswaard. I have offered to bring him some plants and I am waiting to hear back from him as to what he may like.

da shopping list

Here is the shopping list. As far as I know none of the species are in the US. Some of these, Jos does not have, but he does have most of them. I would have added Kwangsiensis which is here but very rare, and Parvifolia, which I already have but would like another, but the space & cost factors w...

europe bamboo

I'm going to see Jos the last week of November to import new species into the US. I'll be standing there looking at his beautiful, not yet introduced into the US Fargesias, Borinda, Himalayacalamus etc. but I will not bother bringing any of them back. They absolutely would not survive here and I jus...

nigra

I may not have been clear, I think Henon will eventually get a decent size - not the monster that we want, but it will take a few years and it will have spread out quite a bit unless well pruned. It's just that Dulcis, Rubro or Atrovaginata would be much larger by then. I also doubt that we'll get t...

Fred- I'll let markj speak for themselves, but I think they are in Europe, where the selection of montane clumpers is much broader than here. I too, have never heard of this species.
