Re: Bamboo & Electric Utilities

This topic came up last year, but I do not know how to link to old thread. I would expect that but I made a search and found nothing, so if anyone knows where the link is, please advise. A fiberglass handle pole saw is better than metal, Perhaps the weak link in electrical protection there is the r...

Re: So what did you block with your bamboo?

We started off with a desire to screen our sewage lagoon (legal here in missouri and one of the most eco friendly of home sewage disposal systems if you have room for one). also for privacy and found that we had created a pretty good dust shield from the gravel road. We continue to expand both for d...

Bamboo & Electric Utilities

I would be interested in any comments on this subject, or any reports good or bad. It would be great if someone here grows bamboo and is a lineman for the power company, then we should be able to read an authoritative and informed response. A few issues that might be discussed -- Power line companie...

Soil Testing for Bamboo

Ok, I saw at least one other post about soil testing so this must be the right fourm :D Here on the Ozark Plateau of South West Missouri When I got a soil test they did not seem to know what the appropriate soil condition would be for bamboo even when I told them the latin name for my variety Phyllo...

Re: Taking advantage of the drought

Well spring has sprung and my bamboo is shooting so it is time to post again. So far my scheme to encourage directional growth of my bamboo is not yet showing progress but it is a little early. Well developed shooting of my bamboo has only occurred with one grove and that has not expanded in the wat...

Re: Dam Bamboo

ShmuBamboo: Thanks for the update on voles. I looked them up on wikipedia and can now confirm that that is what we have been calling field mice. Your information and that from Wikipedia, would imply that the damage to my sweet potatos is probably from the voles using mole tunnels, but fortunately th...

Re: Dam Bamboo

They commonly use bamboo for what you are proposing in Australia and it seems to work fairly well. That is very encouraging news. root mats are fairly shallow (to about 3 feet deep). That would probably be shallow enough, but I have been led to believe from other sources that most of the mat for Ph...

Dam Bamboo

That is Dam, not Damn! During the drought here in Missouri, my dam that gives me a 1.8 acre pond has developed a leak. The previous owners allowed the dam to become overgrown with trees which is an absolute NO-NO because trees on the dry side push their roots through the dam to get water and ...

Bamboo and power wires.

I saw that there is a thread about bamboo and lightening but I was wondering about bamboo and power wires. If my Phyllostachys aureosulcata gets too tall there is one area where it may grow up under the power wires. The electrical co-op lets tree branches grow up as much as 20 feet over the hot wire...

Re: Taking advantage of the drought

I bet you can vastly increase the success by dumping bags of soil on the road side - go deep, even cheap bag soil will help. For the moment I am focusing on the cheap and lazy approach. As my groves develop, their own leaf drop and what they gather as the fall winds or lawn mower blow more in is cr...
