Re: Y. boliana -- advice for a sick plant?
Hi all, As an update, I did end up putting it outside. I had a spot that I originally planned to put it in anyway, so I decided it was better to chance it in the heat and sun than to keep it indoors too much longer. Still have some healthy looking canes (sans any viable leaves) and canes that appear...

Y. boliana -- advice for a sick plant?
Hi all, I received a mail-order #2 specimen, rather good size for a #2 pot at that, but it was somewhat cooked in transit. I've got perma-curled leaves and, near as I can tell, no healthy leaves left on the entire plant. There are numerous (more than half a dozen) shoots at various stages between ju...

Re: Not the brightest thing I've ever done....
So last weekend I bought some dwarf white stripe off ebay. It was an impulse buy as I always wanted to experiment with a dwarf species as a possible ground cover. Anyways, they arrive today and of course its the hottest couple of days so far this year!! So not knowing what to do, I soaked the roots...

Re: Boo-Shoots for 2015
Got an update and two new ones to share. 8) First, revisiting that B. tuldoides 'ventricosa' that I posted about previously in this thread. I thought it had aborted, but it started growing again furiously. Looks to be a big up-size: ventricosa_update1.JPG Next, lagging much behind its regular B. mul...

Realized I had a better shot of the up-size on that B. multiplex, so here it is. Crazy.

...and a few more. As shown before, the B. multiplex have really taken off. Number of new shoots and the up-size is impressive on both plants: Plant 1: multiplex1.JPG Plant 2: multiplex2.JPG Also, the B. multiplex 'Alphonse Karr' has new shoots poking up through the old. Still has some of the nice p...

Re: Boo-Shoots for 2015
Have a few more to share. Wacky weather in May and seems to be continuing into June, but the boos all like it. Despite the 105F, my two F. nitida are hanging in there and even continuing to shoot: nitida1.JPG B. malingensis has some shoots that were coming up when I acquired it. Up-size looks great:...

Re: Giant Timber not looking too healthy
Oldhamaii shoots in late fall and winter months and gets beat up by wind and cold. It's hard for it to grow tall because the wind and cold stunt the culms. If you plant it in a protective area you have a better chance for success. This species loves water and a lot of manure. This is gopher candy a...

Re: Bamboo Thief
 Wow! Sometimes I long for a larger, open tract of land where I could grow a proper grove rather than indulging in my bamboo hobby within the confines of my backyard. But... then I read stories like these and think that sometimes having 6-foot block walls and 7-foot gates surrounding my bambo...

Re: Boo-Shoots for 2015
And a couple others today... First, some B. multiplex on the other side of the yard, two different plants. Given the taper on the first inch or so of these, up-size looks to be significant. I must be doing something right. :) multi3_pic1.JPG multi4_pic1.JPG And last but not least, a nice looking sho...

Got a few more to share, that rain really did start something. :D First up, the same B. multiplex as before has put up two more shoots since the previous post. Original shoot is furthest left, new one is in the left background: multi1_pic1.JPG Closer shot of second new shoot, in the foreground: mult...

Re: Boo-Shoots for 2015
Have another to share, noticed this today after the rains from the last two days. Apparently some of the wettest May we've ever had. I think the boo likes it! Almost sure I did not see this two days ago, must be growing fast: multi_pic1.JPG A closer shot: multi_pic2.JPG This was sold as B....

Re: Boo-Shoots for 2015
Got a couple more pics of new shooting activity today. :D Expected - P. Nigra finally kicking into gear: IMG_2894.JPG IMG_2896.JPG Unexpected - Newly planted F. Nitida putting up a shoot even though the weather has been a bit too hot for them right after transplant. Surprisingly robust, and they loo...

My most exciting so far, one of my 15-gallon Oldhamii popped this little guy out on March 31st: IMG_2544.JPG And here it is taken just a few days ago, slowly but steadily climbing. Has to be between 4' and 5' at the moment. Can't wait to see it leaf out, and hope there's more to come: IMG_2859.JPG

Re: Boo-Shoots for 2015
Cool thread. I have a few I can share. Lots of activity going on since late February here in the Arizona "winter" as it were. 8) The first of my two Buddha Belly to wake up. The one I had before was prolific in later summer, so I'm surprised this one got started so early. IMG_2340.JPG Spec...
