If it looks to be straight Moso, one possibility is that this is edulis 'Kikko-chiku'.
The compressed internodes on kikko usually only show up on larger plants, kind of similar to aurea

all the best,

Re: Moso colour culms and upsize

Deane,

from bamboos of the world it appears that pubescens f. holochrysa is synonymous to the lutea.
I suppose it will show its true colors soon enough given the upsize.

Maybe the person that sold you the plant can give you more information on its origins or maybe some pictures of the parent.

Re: Moso colour culms and upsize

I'm scratching my head with this one as none of the tiny culms have any yellow coloration or hints of stripes as far as I can tell. Edulis is notoriously difficult to propagate - maybe this division fell back to a juvenile-like state? I am guessing that the new, yellow culms do not have a green sulc...

Re: New culms on bamboo?

Hi bamboo123, if the plant suffered from complete leaf loss it can take a little longer than usual for shoots to come. Are the side branches damaged as well or is it just the leaves that got frosted? If, on the side branches at the base of where the leaves are connected, there are little buds that l...

Re: Downsizing

Some of my boos took quite a hit from a brief cold spell this winter, huangwenzhu lost most of its leaves as did a potted bashania fargesii. We'll see how it affects their shooting soon. So far from the phyllostachys only Shanghai 3 has thrown up two odd shoots. Due to unknown reason, Rufa is also n...

Re: need help choosing

the area i am planting i can let the bamboo run as it will be contained by the roads, scott Hi scott and welcome! A road by itself will likely NOT contain phyllostachys, especially if you have a vigorous and tall growing variety. Here is a link to a previous thread with some pictures as well http:/...

Re: Does a collection become a obsession

... Be realistic about how much space you have to grow boo. ... There is so much wisdom in these words. In the beginning I was also obsessed about having as many rare phyllostachys as possible. Now, a few years down the line, I still have the itch to get something new but looking at plants like viv...

Re: Phyllostachys nigra variegata

Yeah from your pictures your right how about this Phyllostachys rubicunda 'Aureovariegata' although I think it’s still different I guess this is from Jos' list? A rubicunda seedling may be a possible candidate if it is a phyllo given that it flowered (is still flowering?) a few years ago. In this r...

Re: Phyllostachys nigra variegata

As much as I want to believe that this is a phyllostachys I have yet to see any pictures of this plant that show the characteristic double side-branches of a phyllo. So far mine hasn't produced any culms that would help with a more positive id in this regard. I'm still kind of leaning towards it sim...

Re: Phyllostachys nigra variegata

So a few discreet enquiries have borne some fruit. The team at Hayloft Plants have been helpful and will reveal that it is of tissue culture origin and turned up in a nursery growing Phyllostachys. They are reluctant to reveal their sources, as they need to tread carefully with giving away their ha...

Re: Phyllostachys nigra variegata

Hey everyone, it has taken a while but here they are - pictures of the supposed nigra "aureo variegata" I forgot to check the pot size but it should be around 7.5 to 10 Liter so you may get an idea of the size of the plant. I have no experience with pleioblastus auricomus but to me it seem...
