I have the tip of a bamboo seedling emerging from a peat pellet I planted a couple of heteroclada seeds in. It's probably heteroclada, though it could be MOSO, since the same peat pellet had MOSO seeds planted in it a year ago, that never germinated.

Not that I would ever advocate the illegal importation of bamboo seeds into the US but Chiltern Seeds in England will ship heteroclada seeds to the US.

That's an interesting twist on how we usually interpret bamboo flowering: viz., as the death of the plant; when in fact it means the opposite: the survival of the species. Of course to survive, bamboo needs an environment to flower where its seeds won't drop onto barren concrete or asphalt.
