He usually is really good for getting properly identified seed, and fresh ones too! They also have moso seeds, as well as s...

Phyllostachys heteroclada from seed
Just ordered some water bamboo seeds from RPS. Every time I order bamboo from seed I get good germination so I always keep an eye out for some there. Seems hardy enough for me to bend it like my other bamboos. Just wondering if anyone here has grown it from seed

Re: Tap Water - how bad is it, if at all?
A few things can do this to my knowledge: Flouridated water overchlorinated water High PH (hard water) Too low relative humidity (dry air in winter, or being too close to a heat vent) Bruising (brushing up against the leaves). I am not sure how well bamboo does with flouridated water, but I do know ...

Re: Timing of "hot" chicken manure for spring shoots
You need to be careful with fresh manure. As brad metioned it can cook your plants. Try composting it for a few weeks first, then as the others mentioned use it when it breaks down a bit. You can even fry roots if they are too close to the surface.

Re: Help with battling Chlorine
Let it sit open for a few days. The larger the amount the longer. You could cheat and go to the pet store and buy dechlorinator. The Hagen brand called "aquaclear" is the best, as it doesnt have many additives if any at all. The best idea is to let it dissipate naturally.

John - Was just toying with ideas. I personally find the acuminata gorgeous, but then again its unfamiliar here so.... Stave - Everything john said. Do not under any circumstances let mould build up, it kills the seeds outright. They also apparently need pretty much complete darkness to germinate. M...
