Re: Turmeric
I'm not sure about this plant. It seems to be growing but the leaf it has put out is awfully pale looking. I have moved it to a larger pot and watered it with a weak fertilizer. I have no idea if this is normal for Turmeric. On the plus side it does appear to be growing.

Re: Climate theories, raves, facts and opinions
It does give us an explanation for this mysterious flooding event a few years ago. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/02/25/mysterious-east-coast-flooding-caused-by-unprecented-surge-in-sea-level/ On a related note, Ted Cruz is now comparing himself to Galileo. http://thinkprogre...

Re: Climate theories, raves, facts and opinions
It looks like we now know why the Northeast is being hit. http://climatecrocks.com/2015/03/23/a-nasty-surprise-in-the-greenhouse-new-paper-new-video/ BTW, I've read that the Gulf Stream acts to pull the ocean away from the East Coast. If it shuts down it can add about a meter to the Sea Level rise t...

Re: Weird Weed
I was noticing yesterday that a citrus tree next to the fern has a dusting of spores on its leaves from the mystery fern. Still no ID on the the fern.

Re: Bamboo leaf tea
This is probably obvious, but different types of bamboo will produce differently flavored teas. Some of the bamboo teas I've read about have been made with Sasa veitchii (very popular), Fargesia (described as sweet), Bambusa and Moso.

Re: moso seedlings leaves yellowing
Yes, there is some variation in the hardiness of various strains of Moso. For instance the Anderson Clone is regarded as more cold hardy than other strains.

Re: Weird Weed
I'm still researching this from time to time. Fronds are getting longer and it looks like it is starting to change the leaf shape. This combined with what appears to be a lot of mis-identification of the various Lygodium species on websites is making things difficult. I'm hoping it turns out to be t...

Re: Weird Weed
I think I have a possible ID on the fern: Lygodium articulatum. I'm not 100% sure, but the "leaf" shape is right.

The leaves look rather small and I'm inclined to think it is a Bambusa of some sort.

Re: Raddia brasiliensis
Does that mean you might spare me a coveted piece? I would really like to add this to my South America exhibit. Very likely since I now have it in three pots plus I've dug up two pieces that had propagated via an intentional attempt to root the culms. The two pieces I dug up are in plastic cups to ...

Re: Pickles and stir fry
Another interesting recipe would be for bamboo beer or wine. There is mention of that in David Farrelly's "Book Of Bamboo", but not complete instructions. That would be a good use for those who have prolific shooters that are not as tasty. Anyone ever eat P aureosulocata or bissetti shoot...

Turmeric
I've been considering growing some turmeric and can't decide whether to grow the yellow or orange type. Any suggestion as to the best type to grow and why?
UPDATE: Krogers got some rhizomes in so it looks like my choice is orange.
