Re: Bamboo that resembles cannabis?
I have saw some basic Yellow Groove around here that was normal but after trimming and herbicide treatment along the road looked just like that. I am curious if the whole grove (if it is large) looks like that or just edges near animals, trimmers or treatment. I will try to grab a pic of some of the...

Re: Anyone interested in charity case?
I got my first bamboo (Alata) for free I saw it growing along the road and just stopped and talked to the owner about it and just asked if I could dig some sometime. My second (Bissetti) I got by replying to craigslist Ad that was selling large poles. I think they were $1 a piece or something but we...

Re: Here's one for you
So far I agree that it looks like Alata. I have had some in the ground for I think 7 years. Only a hand full of culms are crookied. Some years they are crookied and some not but never all the culms. It seems to do with the timing of shooting and the weather. Sometimes only 1 or 2 culms in the year w...

Re: First bamboo you obtained
First bamboo I got was Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Alata'. But was not one that got me into it really I was able to dig a division down the road from my house never knew it was there until I was telling a friend about the wonderful bamboo forests in Hawaii with beautiful waterfalls. Hawai’i Bamboo i...

Re: Bamboo Removal
I think the plastic would help once you get it to the point of the little tuffs of leaves that are flush with the ground. Clear plasic and a very sunny day might be better as it would burn them (super heat) I wonder if you took a torch (flamethrower) and torched the ground for awhile if that would h...

Re: Michigan bamboo mistake? phyllostachys parvifolia
Here's a picture of the parvifolia grove as of today. As shown, it's newest culms are even a bit taller than the tallest that emerged in the last couple of years which were probably around 22ft, so the tallest culm completely straightened out may be around 25ft, but there's no measuring method othe...

Re: How not to get rid of a bamboo stand?
I can't wait to see how this does. If it gets lots and lots of hot sun it may just scorch the new shoots but I think they will grow and either pierce or lift the tarp.

Re: What is the best EATING type of bamboo available in US?
I have heard Phyllosachys dulcis as well but mine didn not live long enough to get shoots. Most of mine are just now getting to the point where I can start harvesting shoots. I would certainly like to know if they are all edible and what are the best. I am getting many now that instead of just kicki...

Re: Looking for spares
Brad, I have Prominens and Robert Young in the spring if they both did something this fall. I'll dig around for Rhizomes before shooting in spring and either grab a few culms and rhizomes or Rhizomes and buds. Neither of them have done real great for me yet. They both still looking like small clumpe...
