Re: Phy Propinqua ‘Beijing’ Flowering
Yes, of course, 2015-2016. Lost a decade somehow. The original rhizome bed is still flowering, so its been in flower for 6-7 years

Re: Bory flowering
Hello Alan. Good to see your post, and hope you are doing well. I don't post very often either. I'm supposed to be retired, but I seem to be busier than when I worked. A friend of mine says his Henon is flowering. My 'Megurochiku' flowered for several years then died, but it has several seedlings co...

Re: Need help identifying
It is almost certainly not vivax.
It very well could be Rubro considering its long internodes.

Re: Phy Propinqua ‘Beijing’ Flowering
Hello All, My propinqua began to flower in 2015-2016, and the rhizomes are continuing to send up small flowering shoots. I pushed the entire grove down several years ago, and keep the area mowed. About three years ago I noticed a small shoot that was not flowering, and it had larger leaves than norm...

Re: Latest Phyllostachys to shoot?
Hello Alan. I just saw your post. Hope all is well with you and yours. For me virella and Rubro shoot at very similar times, and as Brad mentioned virella may be a form of rubro, but not as hardy. Also as Brad mentioned we may or may not have the real virella. I removed my large grove because it was...

Re: source for Shanghai 3
Hello Brad,
We are well, and hoping you are too. I'd love to show you around if you ever made it back to the mainland.
How's island life? I've been following your posts and it looks like you are carving out a beautiful piece of land!
Wishing you health and peace.
David

Re: Phyllostachys meyeri
I've got a mature grove of Meyeri, and the shoots do resemble aurea, but that's where the similarity ends.
Meyeri is taller, and the wood much stronger than aurea.
I'll try to take a pic of the shoots, and I will post it in the Bamboo picture area.

Re: source for Shanghai 3
Hello Steve. I have a Shanghai 3 grove that is approaching 4" culms, and 40' tall. It's really vigorous and spreading like wild. I'll be cutting it back soon and maybe it will produce some smaller plants from the severed rhizomes. I do have a couple of smaller plants that I could dig, but they ...

Re: Phyllostachys nigra 'Bory' flowering in Issaquah, WA
My Megurochiku grove flowered last year and died. It had just started sending up 3" culms. Henon, and Bory seem to okay here.
Hoping for seedlings but none yet, and likely would be plain henon anyway.

Re: Huangwenzhu Inversa to Huangwenzhu
Hi Brad. Would this be considered a reversion or or a mutation? The H.I. came from an Aureocaulis grove at Savannah Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens that contained Vivax type, Huangwenzhu, and Huangwenzhu Inversa.

Re: Iridescens 'Striata'
Thank you Brad. Your kind words mean a great deal to me. I learned a lot from you! Hello Fred. We have an assortment of soils. The Iridescens is growing in creek bottom soil. The soil has been built up over the years by flooding. The creek bottom soil contains sand, humus, and some clay. It also has...
