RE: Gigantic Monitor Posts
It's me, the Gigantic Monitor lizard, slithering back into the topic I started, to say thanks. I wrote a long, amusing reply to all queries which I thought hilarious and clever, but somehow it never posted, probably my fault. Too bad too, since there were more than a few clever references to size, a...

Gigantic Monitor Posts
I have a modest but probably normal 12 inch monitor, and find it frustrating to try and read posts that run off the (my) page. I assume the problem is that the gigantic posts are coming from someone with a graphics size monitor. Is that assumption correct? If so, couldn't you gigantic monitor folks ...

I had an English friend send me Roibosh Tea once, it is supposed to be good for your skin. You're supposed to bath in it, according to my friend, a White Witch in Dartmouth. I did take bathe in Roibosh several times, for a skin problem I had. It was like Alice in Wonderland so to speak, or maybe mor...

If you stake 'em you might break 'em
I transplanted some v. Aureocaulis "Yellow Vivax" in August, and staked the transplant with metal posts that allowed me to tie off the culms to the stakes. Very effective for windy conditions, but not so hot for snow. We had 4 inches last night, and this morning the culms were broken just ...

RE: But mommy, I wanna have one for a pet.
Laughed out loud at Mantis' "I'm in ur" photos. And after that, who cares what else might be posted? I voted for the rabbit, but don't know for sure what eats the boo shoots in the spring, since we also have cats, rats, (bats - are you kidding? Do bats bother boo?), voles, possums and squi...

RE: Cold damage so far
That is a devastating roundup Bill. I was in Wenatchee this summer, and wondered how the bamboo grew on you side of the mountains. And now, I guess I know. Will you stick with these plants when they come back, (the ones that do come back), or go with the ones that work best in your zone? I am amazed...

RE: BamStory from NYTimes
I didn't know we had any legal scholars. Do know that sometimes there is a "send it to a friend" check box format choice (on some websites), which would probably overwrite any possibility of liability ...

RE: BamStory from NYTimes
Thought provoking article. I sort of wonder about copyrights when I see an article like this reproduced on the Internet, but never mind. I like to think about design. I appreciate good design. Great designs are often distilled so completely that they seem (and actually are) quite simple. Architectur...

RE: The Dreaded Black Leaf Mold
My wife and I live in a 1917 farmhouse, that is also home to ladybugs. We even see them inside the house, especially after the weather turns cold. They propagate somewhere inside the walls - some of which are still plaster and lathe. We regard the ladybugs as good luck, but obviously they haven't ki...

RE: The Dreaded Black Leaf Mold
Thanks Phil, for the "sooty mold" update. I'm still hoping it can be solved with a high pressure hose. All I know is, whatever it is scrapes off with a fingernail. I haven't actually seen aphids, but maybe I've overlooked them. I saw the same look on Allgold at Bamboo Mary's house, and she...

RE: Torture
Coming down with bamboo fever, planting 20 varieties, then root pruning, spraying for mites and weeding the mounds for 20 years might be seen as a kind of torture, but I'm sure you hardly notice until you try to sell the plantation.

The Dreaded Black Leaf Mold
I've been really concerned about a black mold (I thought) growing on my Allgold. Searching the web, asking people about it, etc. Considering whether I should buy some expensive "solution". I thought it might be an aphid "honey" problem of some sort, as it (or something) was also ...

RE: General concensus on liners?
I never heard of James Clever's idea until this post, but did exactly that around a 75 by 15 foot Nigra grove. After putting in the barrier, I filled up the outside 2 feet with composted grass clippings, I have thought (many times over the past year) that I might have made a huge mistake doing that....

I thought you were traveling in China and translating from a tourist's tract. Which would be nice. I guess I was only dreaming about a trip for myself.
