Here it is...a 2 year old Square Bamboo....

1) put it in ground?
2) Divide it and put some of it in ground?
3) Leave it as is?

I have been able to save an ignored (at the nursery) Chimonobambusa quadrangularis (Square Bamboo). It has been in a 30 gallon pot for 2 years now and I want to divide it and put some in the ground and some into smaller pots. Before I do this, does anyone have any helpful hints, suggestions, or thin...

With an average low under 15F, I'd estimate a zone 7 or so.

There will be others who may differ.

My average low in Northern California is about 28 and I am zone 9b.

Average temps aren't enough. What is the average low temp in your area in January?

If your high temps are 70F in July, I think you may not get to 9b,.....but it is the low temp average in January.

Don't let these zones scare you, try what you may think will grow.

Thanks for the reply bepah. Thrips are some sort of insect right? Wouldn't I be able to see them on the plants if that were the problem? Yes, the white areas can be seen on both the top and the bottom of the leaves :(! It is tough to see them unless under a microscope..... I am not an organic garde...

I had a similar look on some palms I got from a friend who lives in San Francisco whre is never got warm. It turned out to be thrips. If the white areas go through the leaf (top and bottom) and eventually turn broen, that's what it may be. If it is, quarantine should be considered, along with treatm...
