RE: which phyllostachys has bigger leaves?

Thanks for the suggestion-The semiarundinaria okuboi does have nice big leaves, but it doesn't have the culm girth i'm looking for. On the species table, it lists its diameter as 3.8 cm, and i'm hoping for something closer to 3inches for the spot i have in mind. But i do have a lot more space now, s...

RE: which phyllostachys has bigger leaves?

I think I'll start with the phyll. bambusoides bc the leaves are big and it seems like it will handle the sun, and also the cold better than the others. The bashania looks beautiful, but rates a 4 out of 5 on the sun exposure chart, and the spot i'm starting with is direct sun.

RE: which phyllostachys has bigger leaves?

Very gorgeous bashania photos- whats their leaf length? do you think that it would do well with high summer temps coupled with very low humidity? And then cold winters, down to 15 or so? Thanks for the info - berklady

RE: Zone 8a clumper suggestions?

Up north, where I'd like to plant more clumpers- in zone 8a, I'd say the night time temps do dip pretty low, to in the 50s or so, sometimes cooler, sometimes hotter- does anyone know if i could grow borindas in this situation? My H.hookerianus is growing on the north facing side of my house in the S...

RE: Zone 8a clumper suggestions?

Thanks for the info. on bambusas in zone 8! What a pleasant surprise- my favorite of all my bamboos is the textilis, so if it can withstand cold, I'll be a-diggin' here in a little bit! Do any of you grow borindas or himalayacalamus in zone 8a? Seems like they'd take the cold, but its also HOT- abou...

Zone 8a clumper suggestions?

Hey there, I'm interested in getting some clumpers for my new property in N.Cali mountains Coming from zone 9, i don't know much about clumpers that do well in a colder (and hotter) environment. In Berkeley (zone 9) I love my bambusas- textilis, tuldoides, oldhamii, and dolichomerithalla, along with...

RE: which runner to choose?

Out of the bamboos I've selected, which do you think would be the prettiest, biggest, and most upright? Or do you think its a toss up? Do you have any of them growing- and how big are yours? Thanks a lot for the info!

which runner to choose?

Hey y'all- I'm about to purchase a runner to mark the entrance into our property in N California- I'm at 3600' elevation, very wet (a bit of snow each year) in the winter and DRY, Hot, and LOW (in the teens) humidity in the summer. I've narrowed it down to Vivax, Bambusoides 'Madake", dulcis, o...
