Re: Textilis No to Little Shooting
boolover, I am up in Spring Hill and my Mutabilis has never really been a great shooter for me on average it may send up 5 new shoots per year and never really gains any size. It kind of just maintains. Now on the other hand, my gracilis goes crazy with new shoots every year. I do not have any scien...

Re: Where to find P. vivax 'Aureocaulis'
I don't mean to hijack the thread but... I did get a large single culm division of P. Vivax "Aureocaulis' the other day. I imagine the rhizome was about 16" long. I pottted it up and it has been in the shade for the last couple of days. It doesn't seem in too bad of shape. The leaves are s...

Re: Gigantochloa Sumatra Question
Thanks. That's whay I was afraid of. I will try it out this winter and see if it makes it or not. If next winter is anything like this past winter it won't have a chance. Unfortunately, it is way too big to keep in a pot. Oh well.

Gigantochloa Sumatra Question
I just purchased a large division of Sumatra. I know that the min. temp is listed at 28 deg. but has anyone had experience with the Sumatra at temps lower than 28? If so, what damage was incurred? Also, is it a relatively quick growing bamboo?
Any info would be appreciated.

Re: 2009 Boo Shooting Diary
I had the same problem with a Home Depotnear me. They have Bambusa Ventricosa 'Kimmei' and it is labeled Bambusa Bamboos. It is a 7 gal. pot in sad shape for $49.95. It has been there for at least 4 months.

Re: 2009 Boo Shooting Diary
Just noticed that Ventricosa 'Kimmei', Asian Lemon, D. Minor, B. Chungii, D. Latiflorus, B. Doli 'Silverstripe' and Monastery have started to put up shoots. Nothing crazy, just one or two here and there.

Re: Jumpers
Kind of reminds me of a D. Giganteous that I saw last week. It is amazing how it could upsize so quickly.
How do you think the Parker compares with the Giganteous? Are they similiar in growing rate?

Re: First new Bamboo this year!
I am sure that normally he sells the large pots of bamboo for much more than what I paid for them. Not only are the plants way to big for the pots and root bound, he sustained pretty bad cold damage to most of his bamboo. I don't think the typical bamboo buyer would look at the scragly bamboo and be...

Re: First new Bamboo this year!
Roy, I have no idea what the 100 gal. weights. All I know is that I could barely handle the 30 gal. pots myself. I had to use my riding lawn mower to drag the pot from the front to the back yard. If I can't move the 100 gal. pot then I will have to ask my neighbor to give me a hand. The guy did ment...

First new Bamboo this year!
Just picked up the newest bamboo for my collection this year. I figured I would start earlier in the season as opposed to waiting too long. So far I picked up two Bambusa Lako. One for the ground and the other to propagate with. I also found this guy who has a large tree farm and has been growing ba...

Re: Propogating Bambusa eut. 'Viridivittata' and then some
mr. mike, do you always dig around the area you want to divide then wash all the soil away and then cut. I tend to be a little gun shy about removing soil. I have in the past just dug around the area and then sawed it off hoping that I cut the right area. I just to a division of textilis gracilis to...

Re: Propogating Bambusa eut. 'Viridivittata' and then some
Well, an update on the divisions. They are toast. Have been for a while. I will try again this year. Which leads me to another question. Roy, Can I start divisions on Gracilis, Eut. Viriditatta, Clone X and others? It is mid May and none of those have started shooting yet! So is now a good time to t...

RE: Cold Damage-what too expect?
My thought behind removing the two bamboo is that if it will take a substantial time to get back to the size it was before, I was going to put them in 45 gal. pots so that next winter I can bring them in if the forecast is lower than 24 deg. I like these too much to have them die back every year or ...
