Hello, I think its better to choose a hardier bamboo when there are better choises. I myself have so far good experiance with Fargensia Maasai. Looks much better after a cold winter then Robusta. Very hardy and good looking and should be able to grow fast to a ”living fence” So far in Germany it has...

Maybe "Fargesia murielae Superjumbo" - Mine is after 4 years 3m tall and still growing higher.
It has also no problems with cold winters - but not sure if it grows well in clay.

I also have Nigra, Spectabilis, Atrovaginata but I have only seen this behavour in Parvifolia here. But im also new to bamboo so maybe this is a common strategy with Phyllostachys. Phyllostachys nigra
I bought this bamboo in Mai and it was hard to dig up but now it has even put out new shoots
This was sold as Black bamboo but I see the new shoots have green canes so maybe this is some other cultivar of Phyllostachys nigra?
Can this be correct or could this be anything else?

I got 2 Parvifolia plants this spring that was exactly the same size (1 culm on each plant). When shooting it looks like they use 2 different strategys. One is shooting like crazy - counted to 8 new shoots with slightly bigger culms but most growing out in 45 angle. The other plant it only shooting ...
