Re: tallest clumping bamboo for NC Mountains zone 7A
There are several new nitida x murieliae crossings here in Europe, which not only seem to be very hardy but also get rather big. Most promissing ones are 'Viking', Winter Joy', 'Obelisk', and 'Schensbossen'. I think they have a much higher chance to reach 15 feet+ than "normal" murielae se...

Re: Fargesia demissa 'Gerry'
My plant is in place now for serveral years. At the beginning it was in full sun, but now it has shade most of the day because of a gigantic robusta 'Wolong'. It is not slow and I take 10 to 15 cuttings every year. However the plant defoliates to about 70-80 percent every late autumn. Hight is 3 met...

Re: Borinda albocerea
No, I only had severe damage on this bamboo. Some leaf damage on gaolinensis, on violascens and on Kawadana. That's it.

Re: Borinda albocerea
We had -11 °C this winter, resulted in top-kill. From my experience, it survives-7/8, but not -10.

Re: Fargesia sp. Jiuzhaigou IX photos?
I have 1, 4, and 9. All are only colorful in strong sunlight. The light influence in much bigger than cultivar number, although 4 and 9 are bigger plants after a few years. Fargesia sp. jiuzhaigou 'Deep Purple' (B2) ist a bit different, it is more colorful (at least in Winter and Spring) even with n...

Re: Looking for KR suggestions
Yes KR 7613 is hardier then 1046. 1046 is to tender for our climate. I tried it outside years ago but it sadly died after only about -12°C. In contrast 7613 is happy outside for many years now. The length of the rhizome neck equals the spacing of the culms.

Re: Looking for KR suggestions
I would not recommend 5913, although it is probably the most hardy of the KRs it grows very untidily, similar to Faresia utilis. 4175 is certainly not related to papyrifera, but I think 7613 could be a papyrifera, at least it looks similar to me (picture attached). In addition, 6439 and 6791 develop...

Re: Blue Bamboo ID
You mean diameter? 2 cm I suppose, but I can measure next weekend. As I mentioned hight is only 3.5 - 4m now. It has not the best place in the garden and many shoots died while growing because lack of water.

Re: Blue Bamboo ID
I planted this one in 2013. Lowest temperature since then was -14 °C, which was no problem. We had -21°C in 2010 and that top killed all KRs except 5913.

Re: First delivery of the year Exciting Rare boo’s
For me it just looks like a Phyllostachys praecox 'Viridisulcata'. And as preacox is a form of violascens and violascens is often confused with iridescens ....

Hi Kailey,
KR4175 is smaller compared to most of the other KRs at least in my garden (3.5 m high).
Shooting last year...
