Re: Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.

That's a bummer man, sorry to hear that. I remember back around 2000 I always wanted black bamboo. My neighbor had some. It seemed rare and had an aura about it back then. But back then it was way too expensive for me. I think only one or two nurseries sold it near me. I had no idea Garden Bamboo Nu...

Re: Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.

I hadn't been on the forums and bought some Hennon a couple years back or so. Last year I looked at the branches and could have sworn it was starting to flower. It looked so odd. But figured maybe it was just the hot weather or something. But later found out about the flowering with others groves. I...

Re: Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.

I wish we'd get some new Hennon seed growth soon. I'd love to pick up some Nigra and hennon but it seems they are seeding for years now. Bamboo Garden Nursery's Hennon grove is totally dead and they have none for sale. I think the websites selling those two should stop, going to have some disappoint...

Re: Fargesia demissa 'Gerry'

I would love to try this one someday , however 400 for a one gallon or 500 for a 2 gallon is way out of my range at Bamboo Garden. Same here. I went to see it in person at Bamboo Garden Nursery. I'd really like to buy some but $500 what the hell man. Ok I can understand if it's really rare and slow...

Re: Zone 4 bamboos over 22 years

I'm curious what ever happened with your further experimenting? (if you're still around). I'd love to see some photos too, as none ever got posted. This is incredible that bamboo survived such extreme elements. I'm also surprised at which ones managed so well over others. Of course bissetii is a lit...

Re: Winter Kill

That is brutal looking. That looks like a lot of work to clean up. I couldn't handle being set back like that. At least some clawed their way back.

Re: Prominens and Shanghai 3

The wind is the killer and puts it over the edge. I'm surprised Virella was in the best shape. Seems odd for that one to win out. That's rough to go through. The guy at bamboo gardens was just telling me that same thing, it seems lots of bamboo around the country gets hit with bad cold snaps real fa...

Re: Dendrocalamus Validus

Is it possible to plant some in those 8 foot or 10 foot round stock tanks? That way they would be above the ground, and if somehow salt water got in them you could easily flush them out with clean water from the hose. At least you could keep some bamboo instead of giving up.

Re: Prominens and Shanghai 3

I don't know how you guys can grow bamboo so far north. Seems like such a challenge and would be stressful. And heartbreaking at times when it gets really beat or killed. But I'm impressed with all of your determination. All things considered some decent success stories. It's nice to know it can be ...

Re: Prominens and Shanghai 3

I've added some attachment photos. Man I love that Bambusoides Richard Haurbrich. It looks way more orange in person. My Moso is in the right front, I'm worried that will end up a living stick. I hope it pulls through. Also I meant to say it was the famous Bamboo Garden Nursery in Oregon I acquired ...

Prominens and Shanghai 3

So what has been going on with these two species? Prominens and Shanghai 3 were all the rage 10 years ago. Yet i can't find any nurseries selling the stuff. And can barely find much on it in a search. How has everyone's groves been doing of these two? I figured they would be more widely popular and ...

Re: Getting out of Growing Bamboo in Arizona!

Sorry to hear man. But it also looks like you picked all the wrong bamboo to plant. No way any clumper will live there. And all the rest seem wrong too. I ditched clumpers the first year. When I did my search for bamboo I searched for the most heat and drought tolerant plants. But for me they also ...

Dwarf Bissetii bi-color

Is it normal to get random bicolor culms on bamboo sometimes? I've never seen it happen before. I mean I guess it must at some point for certain bamboos since we eventually have some bicolor species. But I didn't know if maybe it's more common and happens often in most or something. My dwarf Bisseti...
