My corded Makita with 8 inch long blade (and 50 ft. extension cord ) has almost replaced my chainsaw.

Re: Blue Bamboo? H. hookerianus, T. Crassinodus, B. Albocera
I'll be state-side for a while in the coming weeks and I was hoping that someone has a blue variety that they can offer to sell me. I am looking for a small plant as I have to travel with it. I will be growing it in humidity/light controlled indoor conditions. The bluer the better! Name your price!...

Re: timor black and Dendrocalamus minor bamboo hardiness
Tropical Bamboo has it in a 3 Gallon pot for $45.00. Good price! You can see it at: http://www.tropicalbamboo.com/tropical_list.asp?page=9 You can almost double that price for shipping to California (BTW: Both times I order bamboo from Tropical, the postage was more than the estimate and I owed pos...

Re: Is this a Bambusa Lako?
FYI: Apparently Bambusa lako and Gigantochloa atroviolacia use to be lumped together or confused. When I wanted a "black" clumping bamboo, I could not decide, so I bought both. The Bambusa lako (Timor Black) I have is doing well, but does not have solid black culms seen in pictures. The Gi...

Re: Good book for collecting and growing bamboos any ideas
My favorite bamboo book is Timber Press Pocket Guide to Bamboos by Ted Jordan Meredith, 2009.
The name of the book is misleading in that the book will not fit in your pocket.
The problem I have with some of the other popular bamboo books is they omit tropical clumping bamboos.

Re: Clumping Bamboo Footprint at Maturity
I've also wondered how a clumping bamboos footprint changes over years and decades down the line...for instance I have a fargesia rufa with a footprint of 7ft in diameter currently, 10ft in diameter is usually listed as its maximum footprint, but in 20 years from now I wouldn't think that it would ...

Re: Clumping Bamboo Footprint at Maturity
I have my clumping bamboo planted about 3 feet from the fence.
My wife once commented; What am I suppose to do if something happened to you?
My answer; Use the Sawzall and Roundup.

Re: Bamboo news article
I did not like the article. Why? Just another bamboo article that perpetuates the stereotypes that ALL bamboo are the leptomorph type with no mention of the other half that are pachymorph. As a collector and grower of non-invasive tropical bamboos, I always try to spread the word that not all...

Re: Need some help with south american tropical species
Are these going to be outside?
For starters... you might want a list of the more common South American native bamboos grown in the U.S..
Chusquea and Guadua varieties come to mind. Otatea acuminata is very popular. Would it fit into your display theme?

Re: Buddha Belly ?
Glad to hear the positive review for Bambusa Ventricosa "Kimmei". I have both the Wamin striata and the Kimmei. The Kimmei is recovering from a transplant after a sever gopher attack. I do not see the swollen internodes on new growth. I have had people who have Bambusa Ventricosa ask me wh...

Re: Tropical - palm?
hm...ricshaw, either that is a different bamboo palm or it's fast grower. Notice how long the inter-node is compare with the photo I posted. The pictures I posted are not of a "bamboo palm"... the "baby Queen palm" (or pigmy Queen palm) is a close cousin of the bamboo palm.
