I guess we are both going to have to wait and see. My plant is still putting up strong, new culms.
No prob.

Mine is also putting up new culms
But tbh I don't think the prospect for survival is good.

I am based in South East England.
My chusquea has only in the past few weeks started flowering.

Re: Chusquea gigantea

I see you posted the same question as I did !
Must be the same clone in the UK?
Hope we get some answers.

It will be a shame to lose this.
Is one of my fave bamboos. And a sizeable clump.

I believe Chusquea is supposed to have more or less solid culms.

Re: Pleioblastus pygmaeus flowering

Would cutting off the flowers help?
Is only a few culms, so not a big deal to do.

Re: Pleioblastus pygmaeus flowering

I suppose it is common and easy enough to replace.
Just annoying if it does die so soon.

Pleioblastus pygmaeus flowering

I bought this Pleioblastus pygmaeus last year. Was in a 2L pot.
Planted it out as soon as I got it.

This year it seems to be flowering. Not all the culms. Just 4 or 5 in the centre.

Will the plant die?
Or will it have sufficient reserves to keep going?

Re: Please suggest specific bamboo for noise pollution & pri

Hi, And welcome to the Forum. The problem is that patch of grass you want to replace is quite narrow, so there isn't that much room for a plant to develop. But I would consider either Fargesia robusta or Fargesia murieliae. Both a clumping that would get quite dense. You would need a few starter pla...

Re: Bambusa multiplex - Alphonse Karr

Sirius Plant one in the ground and as they will start small protect it over winter. Then take some cuttings the next summer and start them in pots so you have replacements. MarCat Or I may do it the other way round. Keep one in a large pot, and take some bits off to try outdoors. Now to find one - ...

Re: Bambusa multiplex - Alphonse Karr

Yup, that's the problem with trying to grow a tropical looking garden in less than a tropical climate! Something will do well, and then one year there will be a colder than usual snap, and that's the end of your prize specimen. As I say, I had some nice treeferns. When we had that bad cold snap in 2...

Re: Bambusa multiplex - Alphonse Karr

Nicholas,

I know only too well.
Lost all my tree ferns a few years ago when we had a severe winter.

I imagine your conditions in winter are a lot harsher than mine are??
