Re: Re:black bamboo
I've read websites that talk about growing bamboo as a bonsai with lots of instructions and pictures. Could you send me a link? I've also been looking for information on how to go about it, but I have seen it done. I'm more concerned with keeping the cutting alive. If I manage that, then I'll go on...

Re: Re:black bamboo
Thanks for the opinions. I guess I'll be lucky to have a living plant by spring. Oh well, this is what I had to work with. If it doesn't make it, I may look around in the spring for another specimen. I was planning on growing it as a bonsai if it survived. It isn't sitting in water, but potting soil...

Re:black bamboo
A little update and some photos. this is my makeshift setup: a cut up plastic cup with drainage holes and potting soil for the bamboo, a mug for a tray, and a tied plastic bag for humidity. I decided to bring it in this week as we have been having unseasonably cold weather and snow! Tonight may drop...

Re: Help! Saving a black bamboo cutting/pulling
Spoke too soon...the leaves have started curling. I have put a humidity bag around the bamboo to try and prevent further drying out. What do you think my chances are?

Help! Saving a black bamboo cutting/pulling
I was given a black bamboo cutting/pulling. The culm was pulled and then cut, with only a few roots attached to the rhyzome which was sliced off the mother plant. The culm is not that thick, maybe half a cm thick, and 50 cm tall. I have the cutting in a glass with water and am unsure of what to do n...

best methods for fattening up the bellies of Buddha belly
I have a small clump of buddha belly growing in a bonsai pot. I have two culms growing in a zigzag way and only one that has the short fat bulging culms I'm looking for. Do I need to cut out the thinner culms to encourage fatter culms? What can I do to stress it? It's not that warm anymore. It's fal...

Re: Buddha Belly or Green Onion?????????
Haha, that was me. I'm trying to train the culms to grow parallel to each other, and that's the only twine I had on hand at the time. Thanks for the help ID-ing the bamboo. I had seen photos of the green onion and Buddha Belly bamboo, but couldn't really tell them apart. I was also wondering if you ...

I bought this at the plant market in Laitai street Beijing, but I have no idea whether it is Buddha's belly bamboo or green onion bamboo. Does somebody know? How can you tell? Thanks.
