Climate theories, raves, facts and opinions
Climate Change? Global Warming? Plastic poisoning? HAARP? Room for all opinions and facts.
Please try to be civil. OK to have a sense of humor too.
The environment has changed around here in the last 40 years, including different species of fish, imported pests, no where to go...
Lets leave the Psudosasa japonica on its own to recover from the harsh winter.

Rapid rise in CO2 levels and the effect on ocean pH levels in the North Pacific, data from the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory
And the impact on marine life of lower ocean pH is being seen on both coasts...

Re: Climate theories, raves, facts and opinions
From Woods Hole Research Center:
http://www.whrc.org/resources/primer_fundamentals.html
After years of investigation, and in consultation with thousands of scientists, the IPCC was able to write, in its Fourth Assessment Report in 2007, that “warming of the climate system is unequivocal, as is now evident from observations of increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global average sea level.” Their report noted that the dramatic increase in carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere over the past 150 years is largely due to anthropogenic (human-caused) effects and concluded that “most of the observed increase in global average temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations. Discernible human influences now extend to other aspects of climate, including ocean warming, continental-average temperatures, temperature extremes and wind patterns.”

And speaking of frozen Ps. japonicas....
California Drought/Polar Vortex Jet Stream Pattern Linked to Global Warming:
http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMa ... -global-wa
A new study published this week in Geophysical Research Letters, led by Utah State scientist S.-Y. Simon Wang, found that this jet stream pattern was the most extreme on record, and likely could not have grown so extreme without the influence of human-caused global warming. The study concluded, “there is a traceable anthropogenic warming footprint in the enormous intensity of the anomalous ridge during winter 2013-14, the associated drought and its intensity."

From NASA and results from satellite data collected:
Water Vapor Confirmed as Major Player in Climate Change
http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/featur ... rming.html
Andrew Dessler and colleagues from Texas A&M University in College Station confirmed that the heat-amplifying effect of water vapor is potent enough to double the climate warming caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

An overview on global warming from NASA:
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Featur ... /page2.php
Global warming is the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature over the past century primarily due to the greenhouse gases released as people burn fossil fuels. The global average surface temperature rose 0.6 to 0.9 degrees Celsius (1.1 to 1.6° F) between 1906 and 2005, and the rate of temperature increase has nearly doubled in the last 50 years.

Re: Climate theories, raves, facts and opinions
“It neither kills outright nor inflicts apparent physical harm, yet the extent of its destructive toll is already greater than that of any war, plague, famine, or natural calamity on record - and its potential damage to the quality of human life and the fabric of civilized society is beyond calculation. For that reason this sickness of the soul might well be called the 'Fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse.' Its more conventional name, of course, is dehumanization.” -Ashley Montagu

My Bamboo List.
The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.

Re: Climate theories, raves, facts and opinions
I'm somewhat uneducated in the subject. Maybe We could think positive about this I can really only speculate on others speculations and peoples studies on the subject buuuuut, does this mean I'm gonna be able to grow some more coooool stuff? Tropical palms like say a bismarkia ,tropical clumping bamboos maybe a rainbow eucyluptus this all sounds exciting to me. But wait I guess with this supposed "Warming", comes drastic "climate change " highs and lows that seem irregular to us.
Touchy subject but if it could just warm up a little maybe I could be growing a coconut palm one day

I thought this was interesting. I live on Vancouver island and I'm a palm enthusiast.
Not to sure if this will work but I just copied and pasted this page to here.

Surprisingly the link worked without the URL tags.Van-isle-bamboo wrote:I thought this was interesting. I live on Vancouver island and I'm a palm enthusiast.

I wonder if millions of years ago, Vancouver Island was closer to the equator? That could also be a factor.
