Hi- I'd put money on it being incorrectly labled, the true plant is actually hard to find here

If theirs any new shoots popping up nows the time to check.

It could be Phyllostachys praecox. which has flowered recently

That would be my guess as well, it's also widespread here as well.

Looks right to me but mine never matured much, still those dark red shoots are fairly unique.

The plant is very small which won't help but even if it does pull through you've got a few years of looking at a almost dead plant

My patience for this has dwindled away to almost nothing, so anything here going full flower mode is cut down pretty quick ( by that I mean a year or two  ) the
only one I'm putting up with is Phyllostachys praecox 'Viridisulcata' -it's still fairly attractive in a 'almost' full flower mode so the saws are on hold for the mo - but patience
does wear thin after a while and it's been a good 10 years stuck in this mode

Phyllostachys iridescens- the trouble here is imported Chinese stock , forget the label treat the purchase as a lucky dip....!

I had not long planted it in the ground in my garden ,so have moved it to my nursery and replaced it for Phyllostachys parvifolia which is now shooting well. I buy most of my bamboos from specialists in uk ,France and Portugal and have quite a collection 40 + most of which are Phyllostachys but always looking for ones I don't have ,I know you have a very nice collection Mark ,do you ever sell any mark ? I would be very interested in any I don't have

Hi Deane, used to sell/give away a fair bit- but some seem to under a fungus attack which has limited it lately. Is their anything your particularly interested in?

A friend in Denmark has a big clump of a verified Phyllostachys iridescent. He emailed me this morning to say: "I have never had flowers on my bamboo."
