Shoots where you don't want 'em...

Post by Markj »

Can't be many long term growers that haven't found the odd unwanted shoot

These are this years crop, so far....

wow...that shoot was able to pierce through the wooden block eh? I guess that block must be half rotten, but still makes an impressive site. I would keep that one for sure.

Perhaps we should hide this photo from Karen Cricket...just kidding.

The shoot through the tie pic is awesome, destined to become a classic

Is that last one a Parvifolia?

I hope mine gets that big some day, even if it takes ten years...

Or is that Atrovaginata? Sometimes that one can look pinkish.

wow, that's a great picture.

I was walking through my lawn a few days ago, and almost slipped on something wet and smooth. When I looked closer, I saw a Rhizome had surfaced above the ground for a few inches before ducking back under. It was from a Fastuosa Viridis that's only been in the ground 2-3 years, but the Rhizome was about 1.5m away. uh oh.

Time to dig a multch trench as its near the neighbours fence.

Seeing your pic makes me even more nervous lol.

I have some pioneer shots on my p. nigra also but nothing so dramatic. I'm considering dividing them from the mother plant once they develop some more, and replant them where they are wanted.

I know it will at best take years for it to reestablish a noteworthy bamboo grove, but I'm wondering if such a small division even survive. Any first hand expiriences?
