Chimonocalamus pallens is now showing profuse flowering in Northern California in several locations. Betty Shor (bamboo flowering recorder) has been notified. This is a great loss of one of the best bamboos to come down the pike in years and we can only hope for viable seed in a few months.

Re: Chimonocalamus pallens
Well mine was top killed last winter at 12F degrees. One small shoot about 6 feet tall emerged late spring so it gets one more chance at glory. I'll keep an eye out for flowering. Poor guy just can't get a break.......

Re: Chimonocalamus pallens
The C. Pallens germination rate is about 30% of the true seeds planted; I don't know what the survival rate is yet nor what the variability in phenotype of the offspring might be (they're only at the 3-leaf stage!). Viable seeds may be obtained from a 1 or 5 gallon plant in flower (personal experience). So there is hope.
