Sarasota Bamboo Society Meeting
The next meeting of Sarasota Bamboo Society is Saturday May 30, 2009 at 10 AM at Selby Gardens. We had a great showing for our first meeting in February.In less than 45 minutes, we'll cover selections, planting considerations, care and feeding, and sources. A Q&A will follow, and then some socializing. A few bamboos will be sold to benefit the society. Light refreshments will be available, and fresh coffee will be provided by Local Coffee & Tea
Brief Outline of Presentation
1..Selections –Goals, expectations. Beauty, shade, privacy considerations. Specific needs of some ornamentals. Max height vs average height. Figuring out what your “real” hardiness zone is.
2..Planting – Good placement/planning. Sunlight, irrigation, drainage considerations. Being a considerate neighbor, right place, right plant approach (power lines, foundations, pools, etc.).
3..Care/Feeding – How much water? How much fertilizer how often? What kind of fertilizer? Pests. Tips and tricks.
4..Sources – Local and online sources for bamboo. What to expect to pay. Bamboo on a budget, etc.
