Mercer Bamboo meetings

Post by Bamboo Outlaw »

Jan 27'th is the first Mercer bamboo meeting of 2007. We meet the fourth sat of each month from 9:00 to 12:00. We usually are out in the garden grooming plants, propagating bamboo or touring around. We answer any questions folks bring up and generally have a good time. Public is always invited. The gathering is very informal. You can check in at the visitor center to locate the group at any time.

Hi Steve,

How is everything at Mercer? Linda sure does a great job at Mercer. I would like to visit some time this spring. Maybe I can go during March Mart. How are the tropical boo doing with the freezing temps up there. I am assuming the freezing temps have already hit the Houston area.

Good to hear from you!!!

Dodged a bullet. They predicted freezing rain last night, but at my place it only got down to 34* and no rain. There is another chance tonight, but the major threat has passed. :)

SHI Tech is always on hand for any Mercer event :D

I just talked to Linda this eve. She said they had ice on the plants with the Tropical Black leaves completely covered. We shall see how well it holds up. Prior to this, all the plants were doing extremely well. Mercer is gaining quite a collection of bamboo these days.

Yes. I suspect it will completely defoliate at best. The pic on Caldwell's site is this same plant this summer. This is the plant getting the most comments of all the bamboo at Mercer right now.
