I checked. Did not see a groove between the branches on a Culm. Is that a symptom for something?

It's a genus identifier if it is there, since it is not then you likely have a clumping form of bamboo so to have a line of it is a bit unusual for a clumping form but apparently you've maintained it in that profile.

Got it. I put systemic “BioAsvance Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed “ throughout the grove and we had a lot of rain lately that helped it sink into the soil.

I will start to cut out the culms that are black and missing color.

I usually get full size culms (approx 2-2.5”) but this season I’m getting a lot of skinny (.5”) culms. Should I leave them or cut them out as to not let them compete for nutrients with the thicker culms.

I'd leave them, it sounds like your bamboo is in a survival type mode for some reason and is pushing smaller culms.
