Does anybody know what these are?

My vittata is infested with these. They appear to be eggs of some sort. How do I get rid of them?

If you are talking about the small white specks, I would assume that they are some form of scale. If you want to get rid of them, then you will have to treat your B.v. 'Vittata' with some systemic chemical treatment.

Thanks Roy. Can I use a systemic chemical on containerized bamboo? I have some of my stuff in 65 gal containers? Some in 25 gals.

I bought some bamboo on 6/14/08 and brought the potted bamboo to my backyard. I used Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub Insect Control on the plants for 4 weeks, spraying the plants and drenching the potted soil, and I don't see any problem with the plants.

Originally, I bought the Bayer product for a potted hybrid hibiscus. The only thing I noticed is that if I drench the potted soil, just before flowering, the blooms will be about 6 inches across as opposed to the regular size of 9 inches.

Thank you much Roy. I appreciate your advice. I will try out the Bayer brand and see what happens.

You won't see an immediate effect, but over time, as the leaves replace themselves, then the new leaves shouldn't have the scale on them.

If that was a palm I would say you have a fungus. But I have never heard of fungi messing with bamboo leaves.

It's on a few different B.v. vittatas that I have. All of my other bamboo is not affected though. I bought the Bayer today and applied it to the soil. The stuff isn't cheap when you need to buy a few bottles. But if it lasts 12 months it's well worth it. I've used Di-syston on mealies before and you can smell that stuff down the street. Not really kidding. It's nasty stuff. The Bayer is relatively odor free. Thanks again for the advice guys. I have a lot to learn so it's very appreciated.
