Mushrooms and mildew in bamboo container

I constructed my container very carefully to make sure I would avoid this.
It’s open at the bottom for good drainage.
The problem is that I planted cosmos in front of the container and they’ve completely taken the area!
It blocks the sun from drying up the top layer of the mulch.
The bamboo looks fine themselves and getting so many new culms almost daily.

I quickly just watered a bit with baking soda but don’t know if that was a bad idea?
How to get rid of the mildew?
I’ll be chopping down these cosmos in a few weeks by frost, really want to keep them to see them flower already!

if the mulch is wet and the bamboo doesn't look like it needs water, don't water.

Mushrooms aren't a problem -- usually an indication of a healthy ecosystem.

Where is the mildew, on the outside of the container? I wouldn't be worried about that either, except for the appearance.

Thanks for the reply. I’m glad to know about the mushrooms. I was frantic.
They pop up almost every day and I pick them out.

I’ll snap a pic of what the inside of the container looks like. The mildew is on the top layer of the mulch.
