April and Frost. (oh no!)

Post by Eastlandia »

Ok, the past few weeks, 3 to be exact, have been fantastic for growth here in central/southern Indiana. Low temps are at the max in the high forties, it has been wonderful in the 70s and 80s...but I just heard we are to have frost this week!
I have heard several horror stories about failed attempts about saving shoots (mostly from needmore) and yet I still want to try and save mine if the temps get that low. Anyone have any solutions and or comments about the weather/frost? -Eastlandia
I dont think its going to freeze, so that is good :)

Seem to get late frost here most years although this spring is late here and the early shoots might just make it. I too haven't found a good way of protecting shoots and have now given up, best so far was just loose straw for low shoots.

Best of luck.
Bamboo...Please note... This plant is seriously addictive and you may lose interest in other, less rewarding plants!

I knew it would have to happen, the weather has been too nice for too long. Time to wake up and smell the coffee.

Sorry thuja, only thing some of us will be smelling is toasted shoots! :?

I don't think any of my bamboo has started shooting, yet. I'll have to check on bashania later today, but I think she knows better than to shoot before a frost.

It was my fault! I decided the weather wasn't going to get cold again and planted some plants outside! It happens everytime I do that!

I did hedge my bets and plant the deader looking of the two Petasites japonica. And the other plants I was pretty sure would survive a cold snap. Still, the predictability of this is annoying.

The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.

I forgot that tidbit, I just remembered that it was one of the first to shoot. Ahh, frost-tolerant too. ONly need one more thing out of my dear bashania, and that is to resist the urge to freeze in the frigid -10sF
