Lucille, we had a program this weekend at Garden Faire. Bamboo 101, bamboo pests and propagation. We demonstrated all the various tools and how we use them on clumpers. We did a drawing and gave out some of the plants we used in the demonstration.

And this is why I use King of Spades shovels... I'm 220 lbs, and if you look closely you can see I'm off the ground. This would kill any mortal shovel. 8)

Yes indeed, many shovels have had a shorter than expected life span due to digging bamboo. Might have to look into getting one of thsoe "king of spades" to match my Milwaukee 18V cordless sawzall.
Someday maybe I'll find a bamboo my wife likes...in the meantime I'll keep planting more!

Southern Indiana.
My Bamboo List.

The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.

Mechanized hydraulics is the way to go; buy, rent or hire.

I use a $30 breaker bar (from HD, Lowe's, other) for prying, and a shovel/spade for digging.

Alan_L- That's my approach, too. I'm not going to risk breaking my $200 Bamboo Spade by misusing it as a pry bar.

Kudzu, long time no see! I recently broke my 2nd King of Spades prying too hard, I've had that one a long time and misused it as a pry bar for years but a tad too far on a recent clump. But alas, a new one was ordered within an hour of breaking it as they are such great shovels.

Hi, Brad-
I think I've gotten close to that line a couple of times. That must have been quite a division! Have you ever thought of trying to get it rewelded?

I saved it, I think it would be easy to weld, just need to find time and person!
