Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon may have one of the most dramatic bamboo scenes in cinema history-- the classic battle that takes place on top of the CANOPY of a moso forest!

How do you get these "screenshots"? I'm guessing you rent the movie, then "pause" it, then take a picture, but that would not seem (to me) to be a way to get a very good picture? Signed, Not Very Technically Inclined ...

to Bamboomoon: I did it without "Pause" . When movie was playing i hit in Power DVD button for stills and made many jpgs. From them i select the better ones for collection.

Various players have screenshot functions. E.g., the Nero player I think has it.
Here's another movie with bamboo, --or is that rhizomes?

Thuja very nice tip. But it must be very dangerous kind of bamboo. Use very strong barrier for this kind.

Wufeng: I think you have a very clever idea for a coffee table Bamboo Book. You might call it Bamboo Movies. Being interested in bamboo, I have begun to notice when bamboo is in a scene. There's some "bofo" (Moso?) in Memoirs of a Geisha, for instance. This title is of course , only a clever way to get people to open the book. But that is perhaps as important an aspect as almost any other. You mention that you already have a project going. Good luck on it, whatever it is. I must say, there's a kind of lure in this idea that appeals to me. I wonder what others here, might think of this idea?

My main interest is in growing bamboo in my garden, but during the winter i can?t do anything outside and i search another aspect of bamboo. It is interesting for me too. Bamboo is very important symbol in chinese culture. You can find it in chinese poetry, paintings, novels, very often in combination with caligraphy. Its very nice to see. Movies are important part of chinese culture too and bamboo forest is very popular, like scenery, in wuxia category. I only want giv a notice about movies with bamboo. Its only for fun.

For example Touch Of Zen (1969) i think is worth to see.

Nice shots there Cyberous. Definitely some good slice & dice bamboo action in House of Flying Daggers.

Another movie, one that I discovered from a tip from Kentuck (of GW), that has some nice bamboo scenes is The Bridge on the River Kwai. Here're a couple shots...

RE: bamboo in movies: Jet Li Fearless

Just saw Jet Li's Fearless movie. Bamboo plays a mystical role in a couple of scenes.

When a breeze blows everyone stops to appreciate the magical bamboo sounds (my interpretation).

If you're into Wushu, you will love this movie.

There was a lot of bamboo in 24 season 1, at the compound where Kim and Nina Bauer were being held.
