Silphium perfoliatum 'cup plant'
Here is a perennial that likes it where it is. It is now about 6 ft tall. I bought it as a '5 pint' sized plant from a perennial wholesaler about 7 years ago. It is planted above max water level, but not by much. This pond is unlined, dug into kaolinite/silt sub soil, so level fluctuates but is fed by about 120 ft of gutters so it gets an amplified recharge with most rain events.

This is a fantastic plant, and yours looks pretty happy!
Mine is a bit taller, only 2 years old, and gets chomped by deer unless I cage it until it's taller. I grew this because I saw a HUGE specimen at a local garden center's display garden. They've removed that plant for some reason -- it was such a beauty!
