Re: Phyllostachys nigra variegata
Thanks for the tips guys. I’ll try some of those. I have a image size already but it’s the wrong one and confusing. I’ll load that one you suggested Deane. Tarzanus.... that would be super to see some Pencil sized shoots! It’s doing really well right now ( or it was two weeks ago before I left to CR...

Re: Blue Bamboo ID
Oh my Chris thank goodness for you picking up on he bugs and isolating it. I take it the Kr 7615 is the same as 7613? Oh my the numbers sure make these bamboos sound like case studies don’t they haha. Your papyrifera sizes up really fast so it will be interesting to see how fast the KR 7613 does. I’...

Re: Phyllostachys nigra variegata
I love my var..... whatever it is lol but let’s face it. What a shame that hayloft or whoever people got theirs from, didn’t take the time and figure out what they are selling first. How easy would that of been really  I wish it was easier to post pictures here becuse I would share some but si...

Re: Blue Bamboo ID
Great stuff Chris S ! We all appreciate your extensive knowledge and pictures you share.
Hands down really nothing compares in the KR series to the true blue of the cs 1046. I wish wish wish I could trust the (somewhat ) local source for this becuse I fear it’s the less hardy TC one.

Re: Looking for KR suggestions
Steffen, Excuse me if this has been discussed before but would you rate the Kr 7613 hardier then cs 1046? Are your growing this outside ? I’ll be in search now of the 6439 and 6791. I was trying to source the 5913 but I’ll take your word on it and pass for that one. A longer rhizome neck should equa...

Re: Looking for KR suggestions
Well I must chime in....even though I’m busted and certainly shouldn’t be looking at my iPhone here in Costa Rica....but... KR 1046 is stunning. I’m not sure if any borinda / fargesia compares to the true blue it gives off..... that being said there are a few I’m growing and steffen is also a good t...

Re: Blue Bamboo ID
Good to know Steffen.
The culms look pretty big on the 4175 in your picture. What’s your guess on max size for it?
My 5913 looks dead at the moment. Dried out unfortunately.

Steffen
Thanks for the pic. I’ve acquired this one and will look forward to it’s future potential here in the PNW. I’m guessing it’s been pretty hardy for you as well then considering your winter lows can reach -17c if I recall.
Once again thx for the pic

Re: First bamboo you obtained
Pokenei..
Too bad about your spec, that’s awesome though that your others are doing great. I don’t have any of those but I’m restricted also to the size of my yard.
What are your lows in your area ?

Re: First bamboo you obtained
Pokenei....
Moso’s are a zone 8 or better plant. They need hot summers ( which you have ) but mild winters. Nigra can be tender too actually.
Try spectabilis. Totally awesome Bamboo as it ages ( if the weather amend mice will let that happen)

Re: First bamboo you obtained
Fun post ! Ok first Bamboo was Vivax aureocaulis if I remember correctly. Second was nigra. It all started off ( my crazed plant collecting of which not only involves Bamboo but lots of other oddities around the globe ) with my wife and I purchasing a home in 07. Spring of 07 I noticed these spears ...

Re: A winter look at my bamboos
Oh my that’s a nasty forecast your expecting. I’m sorry to hear that. Maybe just maybe it won’t be as bad as thought. I’ve had -12c before here and it wasn’t too bad. The worst was last year when the prolonged cold set in even at milder temps of -10c. Some days were at a high of -1 and it really was...
