RE: Bamboo Farmers' Market Aug 3-4th Bayside TX.

Speaking of "farmers markets", needmore and foxd- there is someone in bloomington selling divisions....im not sure who it is. But people always tell me that he's there...selling boo to unsuspecting...uh, suspects. :D Im reading more and more articles on how people are going "nuts"...

RE: what is this, part 2

Its locust. There are honey, black, green, ect. There is probably another locust tree near-by. Roots from that "mother" tree run at the surface of the soil for many yards, then send up new sprouts. I guess it is kinda like a rhizome, only it can travel much farther and over many years. whe...

I also read somewhere that a native population in South America rarely ate them because of their taste. They can be eaten, however.

RE: long internodes and olive green culms?

Most of the pictures did not load for me, but the shoots in the first photo look like Rubro.
Just to ask, why are you digging rhizome in summer? I dont think it would have enough energy to shoot and produce new growth...

Hey! thats where our water went....barbarians....  We need water...give it back!
Speaking of too much water...Has anyone ever had too much water to the point where their bamboo suffers? It sounds like a dumb question but maybe it has happened to a few of you tropical folk-

!^%@#!* Voles!!

So I have always laughed at needmore's stories... But I'm afraid the smell of fresh groves 2 miles away was enough for a small group of pioneering voles to trek my way. I can now say that my bissetiieye was bombarded by rhizome-eating voles during this spring, stunting its final height and spread. W...

RE: Yey! My first mutant!

Micheal- it is possible for the buds on the bottom of the culms to produce shoots, but it is very rare. I have seen it happen, but to rely on that to propagate a leptomorph rhizome isn't smart. If I do anything, I will remove the culm by itself or a few others, plant it separately and in the future,...

RE: Yey! My first mutant!

It is on the entire culm: top to bottom. I dont have access to tissue culture. :D I wish I could divide it, but it probably wont work with the surrounding root-mass.

Yey! My first mutant!

I have a feeling this happens often, but one of my culms on my P. Aureosulcata grove has varigated leaves: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/myother5th/070507_1957a.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/myother5th/070507_1957.jpg I took these photos on my phone, so they are not very clear.

RE: The Game

oh sorry lance, Even if all of the acres were put to use for the production of ethanol it still wouldnt be able to keep up with the U.S. demand. The more acres devoted for ethanol, the less acres for normal corn production. When normal corn is depleted, corn prices go up. People say that this will h...
