Re: Brazilian longhorn beetle is sawing culms
The first insect looked like an Bole Weeval of some sort (can't read Portugese) the second one shown lying on it's back looks similar to the long horn beetles we have in Texas. They tend to girdle small trees and branches but seem to be picky as to what species they attack. Haven't seen any of their...

I assume you are talking clumper bamboo? Think tree spade. You can hire or rent them. You will need a large one.

You baby a 5gal oldhammi and it will come close to full size culms in 3 years barring nasty freeze events ect. But then again a mature B. oldhammi clump will exceed 10' diameter(6'x7'?)

Shadow you might check out shoot production. As I understand most Dendrocalamus shoots are in demand. Some Bambusa too both of which you can grow.

If and only fi it is a dendrocalamus then with the small leaves strictus would be a good guess.
Most Dendros have huge leaves strictus being an exception maybe.

For climate and looks I would go with the Textilis group. How tall you want is the question. From the picture I think Textilis Gracilis would be best.

Re: Bambusa odashimae/odashima/edulis/oldhamii
Hi Roy They have some large ones at Mercer in Houston and I believe they exceeded 2.25 around 3+. Didn't pay attention to their height. I'll give Outlaw a buzz he may have a good estimate on their height or stop by and look. Mine come from him, possibly two different clones as one was ID'ed as Corni...

You left out Odashimae's habit of having an occasional double node once it sizes up. Kinda of a dead give away when it does that.

I know you guys have had a lot of rain but is this plant in a place that doesn't retain moisture well? Nothing here is shooting very much that isn't receiving extra water do to our drought.
