Re: Seeds available
I simply press each of the seeds with my finger. If it's empty, there's no resistance, if there's grain in it, it feels hard. To be sure, I re-checked the empty ones by carefully trying to bend them. empty seeds are soft and will easily bend while the grain is hard and offers resistance and won't be...

Re: Seeds available
I have also received seeds from fredgpops and like I usually try to do, manually inspect them for damage, non-viable (such as underdeveloped or diseased) or missing grains. I soon noticed that most of the seeds were missing the grain inside. First I checked the Chusquea gigantea seeds and got a bit ...

I don't think we can see the photo. FB link is most likely set to private.

Re: Problem Identification - Leaves
Sunburn can be similar, could also be overfertilization related burn. Stop fertilizing for the time being and check if the issue goes away.

Re: growing Moso in the USA
Temperate bamboos need to chill during winter, or else they just start to decline, or grow extremely poorly. I've grown seedlings that stopped growing after I overwintered them inside and only grew a few tiny shoots during the following season. Tiny little half dead seedlings that remained outside i...

Re: Bamboo ID ?
I'd say Phyllostachys pubescens. Do you have a photo of actual seeds you've got? Were they long and thin with pointy end and a grain inside?

Re: Black (Phy. Nigra) Bamboo blooming, what to do?
If it's not draining too much energy, I would leave it and try to get some seeds, but I am a seedoholic.

Re: Tropical bambusa - breaking branches
That's what came to my mind as well. Some sort of propagation method. Large and heavy branches fall off, they already have new shoots and roots set up, if that falls into a moist undergrowth, rooting could be instant. It pushed out a shoot recently, so it could be triggered by that as well. Some tim...

Tropical bambusa - breaking branches
Does any of you have an idea why would Bambusa vulgaris (most likely) start loosing branches. Whole sets of branches from the node break off by themself or when you just pull lightly one of the branches. I guess that can't be normal, or is it? Most of the branches also have soome aerial roots formin...

Re: Pruning to make bushier
Bambusa has dormant buds, all tropical seem to have them. Fargesia and Borinda as well. Phyllostachys on the other hand is a bit different and it sometimes lacks that growing bud or it aborts during the shooting. In that case, there's no starting point for a branch to start later on, even if pruned....

Re: Pruning to make bushier
When culms are leafed out completely, they won't grow new branches below. You need to severe them as they grow and even then, some bamboo species just refuse to grow branches all the way down. In dense groves where there's little or no light, first branches start almost at the top. I wouldn't cut th...

Re: Pruning to make bushier
Current shoots and culms will most likely remain without low branches, but if you cut off the top of emerging shoots next year, new growth should appear much lower. Some Phyllostachys bamboos tend to grow branches low and some can't wait to push the canopy further up and show their culms. By picking...
