Re: Flowering update

My yunzu flowers every year. Good info on Bamboo Garden. I've bought both from Ned and Gib. Both honest nurseries. Let me know if you have any trades. Rgds

Re: Watering

In the past I have heard (on this site) that soaking over a long period of time has benefits. Also, the local bamboo guru claims watering top to bottom as opposed to just watering bottom gets best results. I mentioned that I don't water large bamboo groves during the dry months (although I max mulch...

Watering

A topic of interest may be how much and when should bamboo be watered. I live in the Santa Cruz mountains, elevation at about 800 ft., and 8 miles from the Pacific Ocean I get almost all natural water December thru March. Almost none in the other months. I can get 20 to 90 inches of rain during the ...

Re: Are the furthest shoots the most likely to abort?

Re direction of new shoots. I have a few locations of bamboo groves that are near neighbors. I have been successful controlling where I want those groves to spread. I water, mulch, and fertilize where I want it to run (and don't water/fertilize/mulch other areas). I would think it would be more diff...

Flowering update

Two surprises this month. My Chusquea gigantea and Phyllostachys nigra are flowering. First time flowering will have a devastating impact on my garden ref size of the groves.
Got to roll with the punches.

Ref Chusquea Llaima experient

After most of the plant flowered last year, I extracted 4 culms that had not flowered in the hope that I they would generate new flowerless clums. One culm flowered in a couple of months. After several months, I just noticed the other 3 culms are flowering. The seeds, by the way, never produced seed...

Cheap Bamboo

Have abt 10 plants, 3 and 5 gal, that have been potted for several months. Most are runners but I have a few clumpers. I'll be putting them on Craigs List in a few weeks in the 15 to 20 dollar range. I'll charge 5 to 10 dollars plus shipment cost to web members. Good plants for those new to bamboo o...

Re: Good news, bad news

When the Lliama flowered, I came across a experiment done on flowering plants where non flowering culms mixed with flowering culms were dug out and replanted after pruning off roots closest to the flowering culms. I dug out 4 culms and replanted them. Several months have gone by and 3 of the 4 culms...

I lay a tarp under the plant to catch the seeds. Don't force seeds to drop. Rgds

Re: Good news, bad news

Llaima (I was misspelling it Lliama) update: Planted first seeds 4 mths ago. No seedlings have been produced. Others who recvd seeds have also reported no results re seedlings. I segregated 4 culms that showed no signs of flowering. 1 started to flower a couple of weeks ago. Two other growers of Lla...
